WASSUP ?

Central United Methodist Church

Welcome to our family! Whether you have family that is nearby or no family at all, you will find that Central United Methodist is a family in every sense of the word. Like most families, we are a kaleidoscope of varied faith journeys and experiences.

We are young, we are old, and we are in between. We are conservative, we are progressive, and many of us are not sure where we stand on theological issues. We are young parents who face raising children as couples and as singles. We are elders who face growing old and watching friends and loved ones leave us, and we wonder when it will be our turn. We are youth and college students who are confused by a world that doesn’t fit neatly into the faith boxes we had constructed as children, and we demand guidance for those difficult questions that elude easy answers. We are children who find that when we are here, the thoughtless remarks of kids on the school playground don’t hurt as much because we understand that we are loved by God and by the family that is Central UMC. Many of us are lost children who confront loneliness due to divorce, death, and alienation from others, and we have found God’s loving embrace through this family that affirms that we all–without any exceptions–are God’s children.

As with all families, our family here at Central embraces us no matter what we encounter in life. A family hugs you and dries your tears before asking any questions. A family is a safe refuge to which you can always return. As you listen to some of our individual experiences and faith journeys, we invite you to share your own story. Your story is vital to our family because you offer the unique perspective that is yours alone, and through that you enrich us as a family of faith.

God through CUMC has radically changed my life, especially over the last 6 years. you offered me a position in your leadership and gave me a place. you allowed me to prepare meals for you Wednesday and gave me a purpose. You asked me to go to El Salvador and you totally changed my life. A seed was planted on that trip and I now feel my life being pulled to do mission on a full time basis. I am so blessed to have those in the church who are supporting and nurturing me in this calling. Some days I am so full of joy that I feel I will burst, and other days I am frustrated because I ask God when can I go? You are all very special to me and for that reason I ask that you all remember that we did not call God to be a part of OUR church but rather God called us to join Him in worship. Our worship is not about us but about God. I pray for each of you that you find your place, your purpose and your calling with our EXTRAVAGANT God.
